Jerry Thames is a business man who owned and operated seven businesses in the suburbs of Chicago, Joliet, Il. He came from Mississippi to Chicago in 1969 during the Great Migration. He was at one time a household name on Joliet's East Side, being the only black-owned business that was not a hair salon or a barber shop.
